Ottawa puts C$162M into 10,000 AI work placements for young Canadians
The federal government will invest up to C$162 million over five years through Mitacs to fund 10,000 AI-related work placements for post-secondary students, recent graduates and post-docs with Canadian businesses.

The Government of Canada announced September 25 in Toronto up to C$162 million over five years, beginning in 2026–27, for Mitacs to support 10,000 co-funded work placements for post-secondary students, recent graduates and post-doctoral fellows working with Canadian businesses on AI adoption and innovation.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
The investment delivers on a key priority of Canada's National AI Strategy, "AI for All," which aims to create up to 90,000 AI-related job and work placement opportunities for young Canadians by 2031. The government says connecting emerging talent with businesses will help companies identify practical AI applications, deploy solutions and turn adoption into greater productivity, growth and competitiveness.
